What's going on!

Campaign Save A Life

What a great year it's been, we have successfully trained 6 new instructors in the Knoxville area. School pkgs. are out and hopefully we will be teaching motorcycle awareness to the Knoxville school systems soon.  In Central and West TN we have taught 671 more students since August of 2009.
We are confident Campaign Save A Life is working across TN since the fatality stats for motorcycle crashes have decreased by 4.

Events:
We are currently working on our 2010 Share the Road Festival, MAFT has been asked to expand this event to Memphis and Knoxville Areas. If you would like to help with this event please contact us.

Government Issues:
Have you have noticed the cable barriers going up on our interstates all around Tennessee? MAFT continues to have meetings with TDOT about improving motorcycling around TN. There has been research done on the cable barriers by both TDOT and MAFT representatives. Studies in the UK and Europe are inconclusive concerning motorcycles. There aren’t many others around, except those of the manufacturers. They state that riders, if they leave the road are more likely to be thrown before hitting the barriers or are thrown over the barriers. Injuries and fatalities basically are the same as with traditional guard rails. Also stated is the low cost of cable guards and the deadly interstate problem of crossovers into the opposite lane, they occur more than most of us think. Because of this, they can be put in where cost prohibited a guard rail system. The conclusion for using them is that more lives will be saved by installing them than by not.

 On a brighter note, we hope you have notice more motorcycling warning signs going up in construction areas and motorcycle allowance signs in HOV lanes. If you know were a sign is needed please send a picture or contact us with the info.
