Legislative Year 2006
CMT/ABATE
Tennessee

May as Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month HJR1041 by Rep. Matheny  We supported this proclamation that was used to ask the public to watch out for us and to please quit running over us with their cars, trucks and mini-vans.  This proclamation passed both houses unanimously.

Child Passengers SB2468 by Sen. Finney  We opposed this bill, which would have made it illegal to take children under 10 years of age for a ride.  The bill was withdrawn.

Child Passengers HB3311/SB3032 by Rep. Vaughn and Sen. Harper  We opposed this bill, which would have made it illegal to take children under 9 years of age for a ride.   The bill failed in committee for lack of a second.

Helmet Bill HB0456/SB0807 by Reps. Davidson, McCormick, Matheny, Moore, Brooks (Knox), Tidwell, McDaniel, Watson E. and Senators Burchett, Miller, Beavers  We supported this bill, which would have given to riders 21 years of age or older, the choice of whether or not to wear a helmet.  This bill was defeated in the Budget sub-committee.

Right of Way HB3431/SB3696 by Reps. Tidwell, Casada, Moore and Senators. Southerland, Black, Henry  We supported this bill, which would have provided stiffer penalties for accidents caused by right of way violations.  We asked that this bill be withdrawn, because we did not have sufficient support to pass the sub-committee.
